Suave and debonair Cold
War secret agent MARK BISHOP comes to Metro in search of his arch nemesis,
his opposite number on
the other side, KGB MAJOR VARIK LENDL. Lendl steals a guidance system for
airliners—and with the
help of the system's designer KITTY DRAKE—he plans to use this life saving
device as
an instrument of death.
Bishop reluctantly works with the VIPER Team while seducing Westlake's
mother SHEILA
at the same time. The
VIPER Team and Bishop hunt down Lendl and destroy the rocket after it's
launched, but before
it hits its target.
Bishop later joins Westlake
and Sheila for lunch, eventually leaving with Sheila. Meanwhile, Cole and
Catlett question Kitty
Drake, the widow of Drake Aerospace's owner. Since Kitty designed the XL-5,
they
ask her if it can be
converted into a weapon. She says she can't imagine how, but the fact that
Kitty's late husband
didn't include her in
his will makes Cole suspicious.
Frankie learns that Lendl,
an ex-KGB agent, destroyed Bishop's career. Meanwhile, Bishop convinces
Sheila to
help him break into Westlake's
computer, where, after hacking into the Drake Aerospace system, they find
a
photo of Kitty making
romantic eye contact with Lendl -- at her own wedding! Just then, Westlake
enters. While
mother and daughter argue,
Bishop pulls a gun and forces them to his car. Catlett arrives and tries
to stop him, but
Bishop, determined to
find Lendl, knocks him out.
Catlett recovers and spies
the incriminating photo of Kitty and Lendl. Realizing that the two are
working together, he
sends Cole to the Drake
estate. Meanwhile, Westlake escapes Bishop's car as they near the property.
Once on
the grounds, Bishop heads
into the woods, while Sheila is captured by Lendl's henchman. Westlake
sees this
happen and retrieves
a gun from the car. She sneaks into the house and, holding the gun to Kitty's
head, orders
Lendl to let her mother
go. Instead, he coldly shoots and kills Kitty.
Since Kitty has already
modified the XL-5, Lendl prepares for a demonstration. Cole, arriving in
the Defender, finds
Bishop just as Lendl
runs outside, determined to keep them at bay until the weapon is airborne.
Westlake locates
the launch monitor but
is unable to disable it, so Cole uses the Defender's missile to shoot Lendl's
weapon out of the
sky. With Bishop's help,
he is able to overpower Lendl and his henchman, capturing them together.
